St. Michael's is an Incorporated Mission of The Episcopal Diocese of San Joaquin (EDSJ) in the state of California. The church has served the Indian Wells Valley at its present location since 1958.
Wherever you are in your journey with God, you are welcome here. If you have just arrived in the Indian Wells Valley or you are simply curious about us, please come to one of our services. Whether you’ve been away from church for a few months or for many years, you will be welcome. If you’ve been meaning to come to church for a while but are just getting around to finding one, come meet us and we will encourage you.
We offer you a Christian community of spiritual renewal and radical acceptance; a commitment to help everyone grow in their spiritual journey; and a heritage deeply rooted in worship, scripture, and prayer.
What We Believe
The Rev. Paul Clark
Reverend Paul was whisked away from the lush green lake lands of Minnesota to Fresno, where he did Campus Ministry and helped supervise a student run community food pantry. Though he was ordained in the Evangelical Lutheran Church of America, during his time in Fresno he got connected to the Episcopal Diocese San Joaquin, and has had at least one foot in the Episcopal church world since. Soon after moving to Bakersfield, he became a supply priest for St. Michael's. He also works as a Hospice Chaplain in Kern county. He loves exploring new places, sipping a great cup of coffee, and playing endless hours of geeky board games.
The Rev. Deacon Cathy Kline
Deacon Cathy was born into an Episcopalian family, baptized at one month old, and confirmed into the Episcopal Church at 12 years of age. She grew up in a small rural community in a town called Medford N.J. and attended a quaint little country church. Back then, women were not called or permitted to serve at the altar so she never had the opportunity to serve as an acolyte. As a teenager however, Cathy developed a deep relationship with God, and after moving to Tucson Arizona with her family joined the youth group. She married a navy man right out of high school and soon moved to California.
Deacon Cathy has been a member of the Diocese of San Juaquin since 1983 and a member of St. Michael’s since 1989. She served many a term on the Vestry and the Bishop’s Committee as well as running a very active youth ministry. When Cathy received the call to serve as a deacon, she returned to school at Cerro Coso College and received her AA in both Liberal Arts and Behavioral Art in 2018. She attended our Diocese School for Deacons and Graduated in 2020 becoming ordained in the middle of a pandemic which made it a very different ordination than most. She was ordained to the Sacred Order of Deacons by Bishop David on January 23, 2021
Deacon Cathy served her first year after ordination at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church in Bakersfield, and she has now been asked to serve at St. Michael’s to assist our current supply priest. "I am very blessed to return to my home congregation as I continue to live in Ridgecrest which is the home of my daughter and her husband as well as my 10 year old grandchild." Deacon Cathy also has a son and daughter-in-law who live in Las Vegas NV with her 18 month old grandson.
"Please feel free to contact me at any time if you wish to find out more about the Deaconate or to just chat. My email address is firstname.lastname@example.org."
